65 MWh Battery Storage Facility by W Power Planned for Worms – Entrix Chosen as Optimization Partner

A new battery storage system with 30 MW power and 65 MWh capacity is currently under construction in the city of Worms, Rhineland-Palatinate. To optimize and market the asset, W Power Renewables GmbH has selected Entrix as its strategic partner. The Munich-based technology company will market the storage unit across all relevant electricity markets using its AI-based trading platform.
W Power Renewables Accelerates Its Storage Strategy
W Power Renewables GmbH is rapidly advancing its battery storage strategy. Following the successful launch of its first large-scale battery storage system with 10 MW capacity in Ohrdruf (Thuringia) – which has been marketed by Entrix since 2024 – the second project is already nearing commissioning. The new storage facility in Worms is expected to be connected to the grid in early 2026. W Power Renewables is managing the overall coordination and leveraging its implementation expertise. The storage system will contribute significantly to grid stability, support the integration of renewable energy, and provide system flexibility.
Regional Partnership for a Sustainable Energy Infrastructure
The project is being realized by W Power Renewables GmbH in collaboration with regional utility EWR AG and project developer Timbra GmbH, which specializes in site development.
“Following the success of the Ohrdruf project, this second joint venture in Worms underscores the strength of our partnership. We’re proud to again take on optimization and marketing responsibilities and to contribute to the integration of flexible storage solutions at another key location,” said Steffen Schülzchen, CEO of Entrix.
Christian Jochemich, Managing Director of W Power Renewables, added: “With this new storage asset in Worms, we are consistently pursuing our battery storage strategy. The successful collaboration with Entrix and our regional partners EWR and Timbra shows how we can accelerate the energy transition in practice.”
AI-Based Multi-Market Strategy
Entrix will market the Worms battery storage system across all relevant electricity markets—from frequency containment reserve (FCR) and automatic frequency restoration reserve (aFRR) to the day-ahead and intraday wholesale markets. Its optimization strategy is powered by AI algorithms that respond in real time to market signals. This enables the storage system to maximize its commercial potential while contributing to grid stability.
A Key Infrastructure Project for the Region
The Worms battery storage system strengthens local energy infrastructure and provides grid-supporting flexibility. As such, it plays an important role in ensuring supply security—both regionally and nationally.
