R.Power, an Independent Power Producer in Poland, and Entrix, a European company specializing in the trading and optimization of flexible energy assets, have signed a Storage Services Agreement for the battery energy storage system (BESS) in Herby, Silesian Voivodeship. The asset has now been commissioned and is live, with Entrix managing its trading and optimization across all relevant electricity markets.
Live and trading
Herby is one of the more demanding assets in the Polish storage landscape: an asymmetrical configuration – 3.8 MW charging, 5 MW discharging – combined with a Capacity Market contract that requires the battery to remain ready to deliver its capacity obligation towards PSE at all times. Both constraints are built directly into the core of Entrix’s dispatch optimization, so that market revenues are maximized while compliance with the Capacity Market obligations is fully safeguarded.
Trading is already up and running. Since the start of supervised optimization, Entrix has been marketing the asset in the day-ahead and intraday markets.
"R.Power is consistently delivering large-scale battery storage and solar PV projects in Poland. The launch of the Herby battery storage project is an important step in the development of our portfolio. We are pleased to begin our cooperation with Entrix and look forward to jointly shaping the direction of the battery energy storage market in Poland.”
"The Herby project is an important milestone for Entrix in Poland. Combining an asymmetrical battery design with a Capacity Market contract requires highly sophisticated optimization. On paper, the asymmetry may look like a limitation – but drawing on our experience with constrained assets in the German market, we treat it as an input to the optimization rather than a disadvantage. Our trading strategies work with the exact charging and discharging parameters and position the battery where it earns the most in each market. We're proud that R.Power has trusted us with this responsibility, and that the transition from commissioning to a successful trading start went so smoothly – from the very first day of supervised optimization, we were able to seize the market opportunities that arose and deliver strong results for Herby. Together, we're demonstrating how complex battery assets can unlock value across multiple markets right from the start of operation."
Preparing for participation in Poland's balancing market
Following the signing of the agreement, Entrix supported R.Power with its technical expertise throughout the commissioning and onboarding phase – from the technical integration of the asset and end-to-end testing of the communication and dispatch chain through to its market registration. Entrix’s onboarding team stays in constant, direct contact with the asset owner, so open points are resolved as they arise. This close and ongoing cooperation enabled a seamless go-live: with the start of commercial operation, Entrix assumed full responsibility for the trading and optimization. Entrix’s AI-based trading solution markets the storage system across the day-ahead and intraday markets. It manages its dispatch in real time while taking into account the asset’s asymmetrical technical parameters, cycle and degradation constraints, and the operational requirements arising from the Capacity Market contract.
In parallel, Entrix has initiated the prequalification process with PSE, under which the Herby facility will be certified to provide balancing services. Upon completion, Entrix will act as the Balancing Service Provider (BSP) for the asset, enabling its participation in Poland’s balancing capacity and energy markets – including frequency containment and frequency restoration reserves.
Poland is emerging as one of Europe’s most dynamic battery storage markets, driven by the rapid growth of renewables, recent Capacity Market auctions in which storage secured a substantial share of contracted capacity, and the reform of the balancing market. The Herby project demonstrates that even technically complex assets can be commercialized effectively across multiple markets from the very start of operation.
