WV Energie AG selects Entrix to optimize and market its first battery storage system in Bavaria

WV Energie AG is building its first battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Wertachtal region of Bavaria, with a capacity of 6.88 MWh. The system is connected to the grid via the grid connection point of a WV-operated solar park but operates fully independently. Entrix has been selected to handle the technical optimization and commercial marketing of the asset across all relevant energy markets.
New Battery Storage Site in the Wertachtal Region
In the Wertachtal region, south of Augsburg, a new battery energy storage system is under construction with a capacity of 6.88 MWh and a power output of 3.44 MW. It will be connected to the public grid via the grid access point of a solar park operated by WV Energie AG. Entrix has been selected to manage the system’s optimization and commercial market participation.
Independent Operation Despite Shared Grid Connection
Although the BESS shares the same grid connection point as the adjacent PV park, it functions as a stand-alone system: fully controllable and technically independent. This means the battery can charge and discharge flexibly, regardless of solar production. This decoupled setup enables maximum flexibility for market participation — including ancillary services and the spot market — without being tied to PV generation.
“In collaboration with the grid operator and Entrix, we have developed a metering and connection concept that allows the standalone storage system to be connected to the grid connection point of our EEG-reimbursed PV system without any restrictions. This allows us to make ideal use of the existing grid connection,” says Andreas Wurm, Managing Director of WV Energie AG.
Profitability Through Dynamic Trading Strategy
Entrix will optimize and market the system using its AI-powered trading platform. The platform enables participation in all key energy markets — including Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR), automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFRR), and both day-ahead and intraday markets — with the goal of maximizing long-term profitability.
The platform continuously analyzes a wide range of real-time data — including market prices, grid signals, and battery degradation and executes fully automated trading decisions based on economic priorities. By combining access to multiple markets with real-time optimization, Entrix implements a dynamic multi-market strategy that ensures both the technical performance of the battery and its long-term economic viability.
“This project is a great example of how battery storage can operate independently of generation and deliver strong commercial value. We’re excited to support WV Energie AG as a partner in optimizing their first battery storage system”, so Steffen Schülzchen, CEO of Entrix
“WV Energie AG is excited to have won Entrix for the marketing of our first large-scale battery storage system on the electricity and balancing energy market. With the storage project, we are paving the way for the development of a sustainable project pipeline – and thus making a real contribution to the energy transition,” emphasizes Andreas Wurm ambout the cooperation with Entrix.
